HydrometLATAM

May 2026

Santiago, Chile

The Why

Latin America is highly climate-vulnerable with different regions and countries experiencing different climate extremes. Given this complex risk landscape, the case for modernised hydrology-meteorology-climate (“hydromet”) services is compelling.

Accurate weather and water forecasting, robust early-warning systems, integrated data networks and resilient infrastructure are essential to reduce disaster risk, bolster adaptation, support resilient agriculture, energy and water sectors, and safeguard livelihoods and economies across LATAM.

There is increasing recognition by multilateral agencies, donors and development banks that hydromet services yield high return-on-investment through avoided losses and lives saved. Donor financing is large (IDB, World Bank, CAF, UNDPand GCF) and donors are driving over $1.5billion in hydromet and resilience projects.

About the event
