HydrometEUROPE

November, 2026

Croatia

The Why

The last five years have seen record-breaking heatwaves, prolonged droughts, devastating floods, and increasingly destructive wildfires, from the Mediterranean to Scandinavia. According to the WMO’s State of the Climate in Europe report, 2023 was the hottest year ever recorded across the continent, with nearly every region affected by extreme weather events.

These extremes are having significant economic and societal impacts. In 2023 alone, Europe recorded more than €13 billion in weather- and climate-related damages, while over 60 % of natural disasters were linked to hydrometeorological events. The need for advanced, integrated and user-focused hydrology and meteorology services has never been greater.
