HydrometASIA

June 2026

Bangkok, Thailand

The Why

The Asia region is facing an extraordinary convergence of hydrological, meteorological and climate-driven risks. According to the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO), Asia is experiencing warming nearly twice the global average, with increasing frequency and severity of extreme weather and events including floods, heatwaves, glacier retreat, and water-scarcity.

These combined pressures mean that robust hydrology-meteorology-climate services are not optional but foundational to resilience in Asia. They underpin early-warning systems, hazard forecasting, climate adaptation, water-resource management, agricultural and infrastructure planning.

Regional cooperation platforms are already emerging: for instance, the South Asia Hydromet Forum (SAHF) works with the World Bank and national hydromet agencies in South Asia to improve forecasting, early-warning systems and data sharing.  Some national meteorological and hydrological services in Asia have also started upgrading observational networks, forecasting models and early-warning infrastructure in recognition of the growing risks.

HydrometASIA 2026 will serve as a critical convening moment to bring together diverse stakeholders across the region to accelerate actionable progress.

About the event

This is our first pan-Asian symposium, covering climate threats such as monsoons, typhoons and droughts.  The event integrates plenary discussions, technical roundtables, and an exhibition showcasing solutions in forecasting, observation networks, data systems and AI-enabled decision-making.
